Asked by Parents
What is a school readiness program?
A school readiness program is designed to immerse your child in activities that they will be exposed to in a primary school setting. These include reading, handwriting, spelling, number skills, concentration development and working with others; all play a significant role in your child’s first years of success in education.
My child attends kinder or a child care centre - Isn’t this enough?
Unfortunately the gap between the two settings is very large. Children are transitioning from play-based education in a kinder or child care setting into a structured, more formal based style of education in primary school. The result between the two styles of education can cause stress and anxiety, and in particular, a lack of confidence in your child.
What are the benefits of a school readiness program?
We know ourselves, that when we practise a skill set, we get better at it, we feel more comfortable and confident and are prepared to take risks to learn further. Conversely, when we are put into an unfamiliar situation it causes unnecessary stress. Once children practise the skills they need for school, their confidence and excitement in extending their knowledge can occur. Children become more advanced and therefore new learning is easier to consolidate and extend, achieving higher results.
Why is Begin Brilliantly the best on the market?
This cleverly designed program has been created by leading educators with many years of experience in both early childhood and the primary school setting. The program is based on research showing a direct correlation between early intervention and ultimately a child’s success in school; not just their first year, but beyond. What better gift can you give your child, than the best head start possible?

How does the program work?
Simply put - there are 3 modules based around different levels depending on what level of education your child is at. Each module is broken into 4 stages; a little like school terms - stage 1,2,3 & 4. Each stage has 9 mini lessons with the exception of stage 4 which has 10.
If you commence and complete module 1, you would move onto module 2. If starting at module 2, you would then move to module 3.
How do I know which module to choose?
There are 3 modules to choose from. Depending on your child will determine which module you choose. We have tailored the program for age groups, however we know, that all children are different, so whilst we have tried to generalise, only you know your child best. Please read through the description of each module, to make the decision that best suits your child.
What is the difference between modules?
Module 1 is specifically designed for children 3 - 4 years of age who are beginning to develop phonemic awareness, pencil grip and fine motor skills with initial counting strategies. They are also developing longer lengths of concentration in order to successfully increase learning capabilities.
Module 2 commences with developing phonemic awareness. However, as we travel into stage 2, the focus is on high frequency words, pushing sounds together and pulling them apart in order to develop reading and spelling. Handwriting is a reflection of cursive writing instead of print; and in stage 2 we commence counting to higher numbers and subitizing.
Module 3 has two purposes; one is the follow on from module 2. The other purpose is to support children who have commenced school and need that little extra boost. In module 3, the focus is on reading and spelling words, hand writing, high frequency words, number and mathematical skills
How many times per week do we do the lesson?
Each module is broken up into 9 lessons or sounds. You can complete one sound per week, revisiting as many times as you like. Of course, you can move onto the next sound earlier, however, we don't suggest moving to the next lesson until your child can say the sound and recognise how this sound is written on paper. The phonics card in your toolkit are a great resource for this.
This is perfectly normal. We suggest that you work towards successfully completing one mini section of the lesson, at a time. Take breaks where necessary. Our 'pause and play' is an integral part of the program, as we work towards increasing your child's concentration, moving through each stage.
How long does each stage go for?
Each stage has 9 mini lessons that vary in length; from 3 - approximately 6 minutes. From start to finish, the lesson is approximately 45 minutes. However, each lesson can be paused and re-visited as you wish, so you can choose how much time you spend at each lesson.
What if my child can't concentrate for the length of each lesson?
This is perfectly normal. We suggest that you work towards successfully completing one mini section of the lesson, at a time. Take breaks where necessary. Our 'pause and play' is an integral part of the program, as we work towards increasing your child's concentration, moving through each stage.
Is the program repetitive?
Absolutely. Children love to know what is coming up in the next session or stage. They love to take ownership of their learning. Repetition allows children to commit new learning to memory and assists in developing routine, which is exactly what your child will experience upon entering school.
Can I switch between modules?
Absolutely; We know that sometimes we make decisions based on what we know, but this can change. At the end of each stage, you can choose to move to a different module, to either challenge your child, or to consolidate their learning.
